This MCC 'interim' release of Linux assembles code from many sources. In some cases bugs have been fixed in the process, but in some cases bugs have been created. I would appreciate any bug fixes or even just reports; please send them to me by E-mail: LeBlanc@mcc.ac.uk. (1) There is a problem with syslogd which sometimes prevents all logins on virtual console 1. If you can login on virtual console 1, you won't see the problem until the next reboot. To fix it, log in as root on virtual console 2, kill the syslogd, kill the hung shell from virtual console 1 (which on the 'ps alx' display appears as 'sh' with a terminal '?'). Wait a minute, then type '/etc/syslogd'. Reported to Rick Faith. (2) A serious bug in fdisk allows you to overlap partitions. Be sure to give the 'verify' command before doing a write. Reported to Rick Faith. (3) The globbing routines in ftp and ftpd don't work. This means that mput and mget have problems if they try to list a directory on your machine. I don't feel guilty about this one, which seems to be a problem in older binaries as well.
